First little project in clay class.

Friday:
First project in clay class, a pinch pot. Ohhh boy. A little below my ability/ aspiration level, but I'll still have some fun with this. =]

Anyone that went through any sort of art course that even dabbled in clay of any sort SHOULD know how to make a pinch pot. I got the basic shape I wanted here, and waited for it to dry a bit. Then I polished it a bit with the back of a spoon so it'd be nice and smooth.

The next day, it was a lot drier, so I polished it a bit more with the back of the spoon, and the stone, shown above. It looks pretty sick, eh?

Same day, post polishing, I put some glaze on it. I went with AMACO, because that's all I have access to. Then I used green stone inside. At this point, I'm really excited to see how this comes out =]

 Tuesday

Well, that's kinda disappointing.  I guess I didn't put enough glaze on it.. oh well. I'll just fire it again. but, I'm STILL excited to see how it looks when it's done and good.

Thursday

Alrighty, second firing, and I'm satisfied. The inside glaze is still showing some of the clay's color in spots. I'll just put another layer on and call it good. =]

This Next Semester

So, this semester I'm LOADED on art credits. 2 studio arts, and a clay class. so here's a list of some things you can expect before June-

  1. updated eyeball painting
  2. masquerade mask
  3. a (good) bowl made on the pottery wheel.
  4. drawings of faces, made as realistic as possible, perhaps even of a live model.
  5. watercolor fairy.
  6. clay bust of Albus Dumbledore with a removable hat
  7. clay turtle, small. very small, to work on my fine motor skills and clay
  8. some sort of finger painting.
  9. screen printing, if i have access to materials. if not, experiment with Tye-dye.
  10. stamp/ print-making.

and that's all I've got for you folks right now, I'll update this at some point.

Hmm.. lets fix this.

Alright, so in my drawing and painting class, we were supposed to create a surreal art piece. I opted for an eyeball plant. I'd offer more of a back story to it, but I'd rather have you interpret it yourself without being influenced by me.

This is the initial painting. In some aspects, I'm kinda happy with it, in others, incredibly unhappy. I don't work with acrylic pants very often. meaning like, ever. so with that in mind, I'm 'happy' with it. the shading needs to be fixed, and the lines need to be more defined. I also want the pot to be resting on something, a windowsill perhaps. That leads me into needing a background. And ideally, I will be able to make the eyes look pretty realistic.

I will be redoing this painting in my second semester, and it will look more like this. the 'roots' are veins. and i want the colors to be really nice.. I'll post another blog entry once I get this rolling, maybe I'll even do something like a documentary! =]

Well, since this is supposed to be a class website..

Initially, this site was meant to be a tool to share my artwork with my classmates, but that plan seems like it kinda went bust. But I figure I might as well stick up some class work on here! I'll put up what I have documented up till this point, and as i make more stuff, I'll add the pieces in their own posts! =]

This is an incense burner I made, I thought it would make a neat piece, and my inspiration was nothing more than a dead, hollow tree and a love for incense. If I were to remake this piece, I could find a non-gloss color, and I would make a larger base to hold the incense stick, as this one is very messy. I would also look more into tree bark texture, maybe use actual tree bark to texturize the tree. I'm pretty satisfied with my mushroom!! =]

This little guy was a christmas gift for my boyfriend. He plays WoW, and they recently made a little in game thing based on the game Plants versus Zombies. he was excited about it, so i made a figurine for him =]. my reference pic is there  ----->

This is my most recent piece. First I took a drawing I'd made a long time ago and made a series of stencils out of it. After some trial and error, I managed to find a combination that worked well. Then I had to find someone to draw it on. I'm going to be getting this once I turn 18 =] this is simply done sharpie on skin.

Anyhow, that's it for now! I'll try to keep you all updated on shoots and projects as the year progresses. have a good one!!

I do believe an introduction is in order..

Hey! I'm Amanda, 17.  Senior at Poland Regional High School. Girlfriend of 4 years. Unnatural black hair, natural green eyes. I'll be trying to keep up with this blog thing as much as possible, its all a matter of me remembering to do so =] I mainly do photography, so I'll devote posts to events I do, and I'll devote posts to projects that I'm working on in school. I may even throw in a few fun stories here and there. My hope with this blog is that you, my reader, will get to know me better through both reading and seeing my work, and by interacting with me. You might want to follow me on facebook as well, though that is almost solely devoted to my photography. hope to get to know you all! <3
