Aww yeah! New mug =]

last clay project was designed to teach us how to use the slab roller and construct things from the slabs we made. cups/ mugs were a popular choice.

i'm pretty happy with how this came out! not a fan of the bubbling that happened at the very top.

there's the handle and the outside, pretty plain. =]

April:

This project is meant to bring to light the realities of children's lives in the current day, the sweetness of being a little kiddo, and the harshness of being an abused child. All of the photos in this post were taken by kids that participate in the mentoring program i volunteer my time to on tuesdays, then subsequently edited by me.

Little update..

so, i haven't posted any of my art lately, i figure i can give you guys a little update. =]

Mini frog =] i gave my big one to one of my old teachers, and i wanted one myself. so i made a little bitty one =] this was a little bit of a challenge for me.. because it was so small and i'm not particularly good with making small things. but i'm pretty happy with him =]

Sad monster! <3 why is it that sad things are cute? i'm kinda bummed out with this piece because the glazes did funny things.. for one, the blue i used in the eyes ran in between the eyes. and didn't run as much as i wanted it to. so i had to manually make the tear streams on his face. also, he got fired before i was finished glazing him, so the clay turned white. i wanted him a light gray.  oh well. he's still adorable.

I like me some surreal trees.

so, a friend approached me about doing some commissioned artwork on her bedroom wall, a surreal looking tree to be precise. she already has some existing work on her walls, a couple of peace signs. i tried to incorporate circles into my design so that those would fit in well. here's what i initially came up with. of course, this is a very rough painting. but the idea is there, flowing and swirly. i also know that she's into Wicca, and she seems very worldly and peaceful, so i tried to include lots of other circular symbols.

I loved this idea so much that i started another personal painting aside from what i intended to give her. this is what i have so far, i plan to have just simple circles in this design, in different colors and sizes.. no symbols and whatnot.. just the circles. i'll keep this updated for everyone interested =]

Just ignore the finger =] finished piece! i'm super excited about it.

Just an update! this piece is up for display at Square Root natural foods in Poland Maine! at a later date it may well go up for SALE! i'm not entirely sure how i feel about this, but whatever ti is, it's borderline excited!

Second Clay Project!

The project was to make an animal.  At first i was thinking about making a piggybank, but I decided against it.. so I made a frog!!

This is what I've got right now! Once the clay dries a bit I'm gonna carve out the webbing between his little froggy toes, and a bit of texture over the body, and make his little froggy face a bit more defined.. =] I'm really happy with it right now.

Update! Got him all glazed up and in the kiln. The leg broke off, and into two parts. So I managed to get the parts of the leg together with glaze, and I'll end up gluing them on after he's been fired...  I hope he turns out good..

First firing! Obviously the leg didn't stay together like i thought it might.. oh well! I need to do several more layers of glaze as well as a few more firings to get some detail in the belly and eyes.. he should still come out well.

So i did a few more layers of glaze and lost patience with this project, but in between firings, a friend of mine had shown this piece to a favorite teacher of mine, who just so happens to be IN LOVE with frogs. So, after a bit of reasoning with myself, i decided to make her day and give her the frog to add to her collection.
